Cancer seems to have touched us all in one way or another. Whether we’ve been stricken with it ourselves or one of our loved ones.
Many of us who crochet want to give back by crocheting hats & donating them to a family member or friend who has cancer or to a local cancer center. This event is a way to offer lots of new patterns that could offer cancer patients a bit of comfort.
Now’s your chance to help support cancer patients.
When you download a FREE hat pattern you are pledging to make AT LEAST ONE hat from that pattern to donate to someone you know who is battling cancer or to a cancer center.
On October 24, I am honored to be the featured designer for the 2024 #CrochetCancerChallenge.
This year’s design is in honor of my sweet Aunt Sharon who is fighting Bone Cancer.
She has always been near & dear to my heart, so I used some of my favorite stitches to honor her.
Aunt Sharon, of German decent, spent her life as a chef and for many years was so in her own restaurant. "Köchin" is a feminine German noun that translates to "cook" in English.
The pattern gives instructions for making this gorgeous slouch hat in 3 adult sizes (M/L/XL). It's easy to adjust the height and can be made in 2 different versions and has 2 brim options.
This slouchy works up quickly with awesome texture and would make the perfect gift for all the adults in your life ... and a great addition to your next market.
The cancer ribbon color for bone cancer is yellow. I couldn't decide on what shade of yellow I liked best, so I used 2 different ones.
I just couldn't resist the Red Heart Super Saver Ombre in Sunny. It's so bright and cheery, which reminded me of the fun memories of my youth when I spent time with my Aunt Sharon.
Then I found Lion Brand Feels Like Butta in Lemon. This color (& the yarn) is so soft, which reminded me of my Aunt Sharon's kind and soft heart ... always giving so much of herself to care for those she loves.
